Investor So Moved By Holocaust Documentary That She Writes First Book On It

After reading Anne Frank’s diary, watch the movie “schindler’s list“And watching various documentaries about the Holocaust, I visited the Holocaust Museum in Farmington Hills, MI, and was very moved by how the Holocaust not only impacted the Jewish people but greatly impacted the entire world.

I suspect that my visit to the museum may have had the same effect on me as when the author JL Witterick saw a documentary on the Holocaust. The documentary (“The No. 4 Street of Our Lady” 2009) that Witterick saw was about the heroic efforts of Franciszka Halamaj and her daughter to provide a safe haven for Jewish individuals and families, an act punishable by death. It was so moving that Witterick wrote his inspiring novel about the Holocaust, “my mother’s secret“.

This exciting novel tells the story of how Franciszka and her daughter hid Jewish families and a German soldier in their small house. Her secret to survival is revealed, in part, by her belief that the best way to survive in her world was to be insignificant. Survival also required them to be crafty, such as mixing the droppings of the people she hid with the pigs’ waste, then scooping it out. And certainly Franciszka had to think about the future. Her daughter said of Franciszka that her mother did not play chess, but if she did she would be “many moves ahead”.

Witterick is the daughter of Chinese immigrants who came to Canada with $200 in 1968 when she was seven years old. At the time, the family was so poor but so committed to education that they would regularly buy used Salvation Army books for 5-10 cents for Jenny to read.

Witterick is not your usual author, as she is the chairwoman of Sky Investment Counsel, one of Canada’s largest international money managers. Known as JL Witterick among the authors, she is better known as Jenny Witterick in the investment community.

Jenny was President of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts in 1995/1996. A former Rhodes Scholar nominee, Jenny has a BA from the University of Western Ontario. She is also a CFA Charter Holder.

I read an early copy of “My Mother’s Secret,” but the author plans to publish her first novel during the national Holocaust Week celebration in April 2013.

Anyone who has enjoyed”Anne Frank Dairy” Prayed “schindler’s list“Surely you will also enjoy reading”my mother’s secret.” This book provides not only a good story, but also an exciting drama.
