The 7 Most Common Mistakes Found in Car Classified Ads

The number of people posting used car classifieds today shows an upward spiral. Looking at the used car classifieds they write and guessing the amounts they spend to advertise their product (used car), one will naturally wonder how these people sell their car for a decent price. By closely following the ads, one may find that over 80% of classified ads make one or more of the seven mistakes listed below.

1. Not describing the car

When writing used car classifieds, classic car classifieds, or power car classifieds, many people tend to miss the exact model name and year of manufacture in the ad. Include such details in a positive way and not too many words are needed.

2. Not leaving a phone number

Many people who write used car classifieds today think they can manage their used car sale with just an email address. People like to talk to potential sellers before they make a decision to buy their car. Never make a mistake by not including your phone number.

3. Show off the condition of the car

Excessive boasting scares people away. Write factual ads that tell readers your mileage and age.

4. Trying to sell the car

Many people think they can sell the car through a classified ad and write their classified ad as a sales letter. Keep in mind that people don’t buy based on what they see in the classified ad; instead, they make a decision after seeing the car in person and after speaking with the car’s owner. Therefore, the used car classified ad can only generate a lead for you.

5. Not including a price tag

Claiming your used car price in your used car classifieds is a tricky task. Ask for a low price and your car will have a lower perceived (not actual) value. Ask a higher price and people run away. You want to put the price you are really willing to accept for your car.

6. Use of obscure abbreviations

This is a strict no-no for used car classifieds writing. However, you can use abbreviations that are understood by more than 50% of the population.

7. Do not use large or bold letters

Use bold headings to describe the year and model of your car. The format would be like 1997 Lexus LS400 LA. The headline is clear, descriptive and to the point. People looking for that particular car model in the Los Angeles area will be interested in contacting and buying from you.
