Unholy Death Knight leveling build for Cataclysm
Being a Death Knight, you have several different playstyles to choose from as you level up, but my personal favorite is the Unholy Death Knight Leveling Build. This is one of the most powerful leveling specs for DK, but not many people know how to really unlock the potential of this spec. Why choose an Unholy Death Knight leveling build?
Unholy has some unique survival techniques and abilities that you really can’t find in other Death Knight specs. First, you can choose your passive movement ability at the beginning of Improved Unholy Presence. Normally, you’d have to wait until level 70, but with an unholy death knight leveling build, you can specify the movement increase before finishing the initial DK missions. Second, your ghoul adds impressive DPS, but what helps you as you level up is the added survivability in stuns and tanks for you. Desecration also helps you burn off a part of a mob’s health, while flushing and your illnesses, Unholy Blight and ghoul finish them off. This essentially allows you to get more work done in half the time. This takes some practice, but when you get it right, the unholy death knight’s leveling build is ahead of any other leveling build.
Talents for a leveling build of an unholy death knight
Basically, you want to complete all the talent points in the Unholy tree, except Resistant Infection, Death Dash, Unholy Frenzy, Magic Suppression, and Anti-Magic Zone. You have the option to subspecify on Blood or Frost. Blood will give you extra DPS and runic power through Bladed Armor, Butchery, and Scent of Blood. A Frost Sub specialization will give you additional survivability through the Lichborne talent. When you become Undead with this ability, you can cast Death Coil at yourself for powerful heals. Deah Coil’s increased damage and healing makes this an excellent subspec for an unholy DK level build
Glyphs for a leveling build of an unholy death knight
The glyphs you choose can be just as important as the talent points you choose. Your main glyphs will be the same regardless of your specification. You want to choose Death Coil, Raise Dead, and Scourge Strike to upgrade your most powerful abilities. For your main glyphs, my personal preference is Pestilence, Death Grip, and Dark Succor. Dark Succor is an important healing mechanic, while the increased range of pestilence and Death Grip give you more ability to pull chains. Your minor glyphs will depend somewhat on the subspecification of your unholy leveling build. If you subspecify Frost for Lichborne, you definitely want Death’s Embrace for self-heal at half price. If you subspecify Blood, your options are Horn of Winter, Path of Frost, and Gryphon of Blood for the bonus rune.
