The Nissan Skyline: a truly Japanese sports car

Affectionately known as Godzilla among its enthusiasts, the Nissan Skyline is truly an excellent Japanese sports car, and otherwise what a beautiful beast she is too. They are not that common in the US, so when you come across one, there are plenty of curious fans and enthusiasts who gather every time these cars are parked.

Believe it or not, the Nissan Skyline has been around for about 45 years and has deservedly won many prestigious awards along the way. However, there was a 10-year period where production was halted, but delighted fans were over the moon when Nissan announced in 1989 that it would be launching an all-new GT-R Skyline.

A few years after the production of this elegant machine, the GT-R Skyline was awarded the Group ‘A’ Japanese Touring Car Championship. In 1994, due to its phenomenal success, the Nissan Skyline received its own series. This series was aptly named the Japan GT Car series.

Although the Nissan Skyline was a much sought-after engine in the United States of America, the Skyline GT-R was never built to meet American standards, but all was not lost thanks to Motorex. Motorex imports and modifies the Nissan Skyline GT-R to meet these standards and consequently these cars can then be launched on US soil.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R is not a cheap car, but it is the dream of many young drivers. Sadly for them, most only manage to push the pedal to the ground by driving it through a computer screen. It’s a very popular choice in computer racing games, and for good reason.

Options for the Nissan Skyline have arrived as a sedan or coupe. If you’re not sure what modern models look like, just do a Google Image search of the Nissan Skyline GT-R and you can see for yourself why this car is so easy on the eyes. If you like engine mechanics, there are a host of sites that will take it apart to the core and rebuild it bit by bit.

Cars are more than a means of transportation, in fact, many men treat their vehicles with the same tender affection as their women. I’m not saying there is anything healthy about it, but it is, and I would venture to say that many racers would live in their car rather than get rid of it, and especially if it were a Nissan Skyline GT-R.
