The efficient and modern design of trawler style yachts

Trawler yachts, better known as recreational trawlers, are recreational vessels that resemble commercial fishing boats. They are usually referred to as cruising trawlers due to the rather modest speeds they can achieve. On the other hand, mid-size trawler style yachts are also capable of long distance voyages, giving your crew a safe and relaxing trip.

The appearance of trawlers

The trawlers could, in some cases, be an actual fishing boat that was refitted. I have personally seen shrimp boats that have been transformed into recreational boats. Most are one-of-a-kind, created by some 70 different shipbuilders in the world. Contrary to what might be hinted at by the name; Recreational trawlers are built as much for their visual appeal as for their practicality.

Recreational trawlers are distinguished by their high decks and wheelhouses. Gangways on each side of the superstructure allow easy access from the stern of the ship to the foredeck. The height of the flybridge on trawler type pleasure yachts improves the visibility of the Skipper at the helm in all types of weather conditions. In rough water, the design protects the captain from splashing water that can hinder the captain of other varieties of vessels. The simple entry to the front deck also makes it realistic to use the front deck for storage.

What to expect from pleasure trawlers

Pleasure trawlers also differ from other vessels in the style of their hulls. Fishing boats use a displacement hull, which will increase your means of moving larger loads. Recreational trawlers often use a semi-displacement hull design, which still provides good buoyancy and allows them to cruise at rather higher speeds. A mid-size semi-displacement hull vessel can reach speeds of up to 11 knots, or roughly twice that of a full displacement hull vessel.

One advantage of the lower speeds associated with trawlers is the benefit of better fuel economy, which will consequently reduce operating costs. A good number of the larger boats of this variety have two engines, but many yachts have only one.

Typically 36 to 60 feet long, recreational trawlers are well known for their ability to navigate long distances without needing to get more fuel. The cruising range of even the smallest ships can be up to 3,000 miles. These boats can easily handle up to a crew of 4 or can serve as living space for people who are content to stay on the water.
