Stress Management Tips for Teachers

The stress management process is one of the keys for teachers to have a successful professional life. Although professional life presents many demands that can be difficult to manage, stress management provides several ways to manage anxiety. A series of stress situations that teachers face are: children’s negative attitude towards study, little authority to carry out their responsibilities, too heavy workload, feeling dissatisfied with the conflicting demands of classmates and students , ignorance of the method of evaluation of teaching and tutoring work, poor working conditions, that is, a poorly constructed building with inadequate soundproofing, high noise level and low level of expenditure on educational equipment.

Fortunately, there are many stress management techniques that are helpful for teachers to improve their performance. Here are some tips for stress management.

1. Avoid overwork, especially when you are tired

2. Maintain social contacts outside educational institutions

3Think positively (how can I do better next time?) instead of negatively (that was terrible, I better quit)

4. Learn fast from mistakes

5. Good communication with other staff, particularly those with whom you work most closely.

6. Don’t get points where you don’t like students.

7. Serene analysis of the lessons.

8. Stronger guidelines on exactly how to deal with misbehaving students

9. Have lessons as well prepared as possible

10. Learn to say “no”: refuse to accept additional responsibilities

11. Reject people who stress you out: If someone is constantly causing stress in your life and you can’t change the relationship, limit the amount of time you spend with that person or end the relationship altogether.

12. Take control of your environment: If the evening news makes you anxious, turn off the TV. If going to the market is an unpleasant task, do your shopping online.

13.Avoid Hot Topics: If you get upset about religion or politics, cross them off your talk lists, stop mentioning them, or apologize when it’s the topic of discussion.

14. Reduce your to-do list: Analyze your schedule, responsibilities and daily tasks. Avoid getting involved in too many extracurricular activities. Distinguish between the “must” and the “must”.

15. Express your feelings instead of repressing them

16. Do not try to control the uncontrollable: Many things in our lives are out of our control, particularly the behavior of other people. Instead of stressing over them, focus on the things you can control, like how you choose to react to problems.

17. Finally, look for the bright side: as the saying goes, “what doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.” When you face big challenges, try to see them as opportunities for personal growth.

Following these tips will be of great help to reduce stress and improve professional performance.
