New Features for 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty Trucks

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado heavy duty trucks have some exciting new features that make them the most exciting models to hit the floors for a while. From new racks to new technology, you’ll be surprised how much you want this new heavy-duty Chevy truck.

All 2011 heavy duty truck models have new frames to improve drivability and durability. Eleven all-new boxed frame assemblies with more cross sections and more high-strength steel give trucks greater towing capacity. The front sections are also hydroformed.

They also have a completely redesigned independent front suspension system that offers a higher front axle weight rating. This allows a snow thrower to be used in all four wheel drive cab configurations. This upgraded suspension uses a pair of urethane bumpers on each side instead of one for better load management.

Heavy trucks also sport a new asymmetric leaf spring rear suspension. Minimizes axle jump and improves traction control efficiency. The 2500 models have a two-stage design, while the 3500 models have a three-stage design.

There’s a new powertrain combination from the Duramax 6.6L diesel and the Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission. This combo helps enable new features like the exhaust brake system. This combination is expected to provide the best fuel economy for this truck segment.

A powertrain returns to heavy trucks as well. The Vortec 6.0L gasoline V8 with variable valve timing with the beefed-up version of the Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic transmission offers excellent performance and efficiency. It also puts a greater emphasis on low-end power.

Another new feature, only on Duramax models, is an exhaust brake system. This is a driver-selectable feature that uses turbocharger turbine control and engine compression to generate back pressure that slows the truck without applying the brakes. The brake system enables effortless driving and teamwork and prolongs brake life and prevents overheating.

Brake feel and performance are also improved as the standard four-wheel disc system has been revamped for smoother, more immediate and safer performance. The front and rear rotors are larger in diameter and width to support your increased capacity, weight rating, and trailer rating.

Longer wheelbases and wider front / rear tracks also improve the ride and handling characteristics of the 2500 and 3500 models. This gives them a greater feeling of smoothness and control.

There are many new safety features now included, such as the StabiliTrak electronic stability control system on single rear wheel models, a new heavy duty tubular steel frame cross member, side curtain airbags for the pelvic seat / thorax and head, available rear backup camera, trailer sway control system on single rear wheel models, hill start assist and segment exclusive OnStar 9.0.
