All you have to do to get your hands on this new instant messenger is download it. At the time of this writing, it does not “work well” with Windows Vista, but it works perfectly with Windows XP, 2000 and 98. You must also be using a PC, as there is no Mac version yet. You can download from the MySpace website. Once downloaded, simply follow the instructions that come with the file to open and get MySpace IM up and running.

First, you will need to log into the app. You will use the same email account and password that you use to log into your MySpace account. You will have three options to choose from here. MySpace IM can save your password, automatically log in for you, or allow you to log in as Hidden, so in case you want to quickly check something and then log out, your friends won’t think you’re ignoring them!

You will then need to decide which of your friends you want to add to MySpace IM. There are options to add only your best friends, add all your friends up to 200 alone, or search for friends to add. Actually, you just need to add the people you want to talk to on a regular basis. If by any chance some of these people do not have MySpace IM installed on their machine, you will be given the option to send them an invitation. Now that you have your Friends listed in the app, what’s next?

This is where the fun begins! Everyone you have added to MySpace Instant Messaging can be contacted through the app. You can find out when they are online (unless they have chosen the Hidden option), share photos with them, and listen to music that they may have included in their MySpace layout. You can also see their profile picture!
