Jars – Make great movie gifts and props

Imagine this scenario in a comedy movie: Two men are trapped under a sewer due to a freak accident. It was just a coincidence that the other character in the story has a hip flask with him. As the scene progresses, the two rude characters begin to tell each other their life stories, taking turns with a drink from the flask. After a while the alcoholic drink in the jar starts to kick in and as they continue their stories one of them starts to break out and cry which is a really funny scene.

That movie is I-Spy starring Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson. In the film, the jar subliminally directs the viewers’ attention, while it can also act as a cue to the actor that he is about to deliver his script lines. The jars are excellent props in movie scenes where there is a conversation between two or three actors. This strategy has been used several times in Hollywood movies.

Out of truth, hip flasks, especially hip flasks, were restricted to gentlemen or people of noble birth during the old days, though it’s not all that surprising to discover women with hip flasks tucked into their belts as well. It is always full of liquor and is supposed to keep the body warm during the biting cold of winter. This use of the flask definitely stuck with us to this day that having a flask tucked into your pants or jeans makes one look like an alcoholic.

Today, a jar is considered an interesting and valuable gift. In fact, it’s ironic that an item filled with alcohol can also be a symbol of elegance and style. For example, in the movie Spy Game, starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt, the latter gave the former a hip flask. In the film, the ancient but priceless vial symbolizes the apprentice’s trust, loyalty and reverence for his mentor. On the other hand, when the mentor sees the gift after having kept it for so long, he realizes the meaning behind the gift and is therefore moved to act in aid of his struggling apprentice.

It is because of the pure polishing of the silver or its colorful use in the film industry that boosted the popularity of the hip flask. You can check at any souvenir shop and you may find a jar or two for sale. Try looking at a glass lining on the inside to see if you’ve chosen a quality flask. A glass-lined flask prevents the metallic taste from mingling with the drink.

Whatever the reason behind its fame, a flask is definitely a gift that is welcomed by anyone, alcoholic or not. If MTV ever had the coolest accessory at a movie award, it had to be a hip flask. No other element can be handled better in a scene than a jar. The only problem is who will accept the prize?
