DMCC Dubai promotes and facilitates trade across the UAE’s core commodities by providing the physical, market, legal and financial infrastructure to support commodity businesses. It has emerged as a global trading hub with over 1,300 companies, from major multinationals to start-ups operating in the gold and precious metals, diamonds, pearls, tea, energy and other commodities sectors. Its world-class business infrastructure, liberal trading rules, complete foreign ownership and tax-free environment have attracted a wide range of international investors to establish their businesses in the free zone.

Founded in 2006, DMCC is the Government of Dubai’s flagship free zone authority for commodities trade and enterprise. It is the world’s fastest growing free zone with a unique business ecosystem that supports the success of over 13,000 companies, 66 towers and a community of more than 87,000 people. The community is home to internationally renowned brands including PepsiCo, Harley-Davidson, De Beers and Duracell as well as hundreds of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups from around the world.

A wide range of trade licences are available for businesses wishing to set up in Dubai DMCC. Companies can choose to obtain a General Trading license which allows for the buying, selling or storage of goods or services in the free zone, a Merchandising and Retail Trade license which allows companies to sell goods through online and offline channels, or a Crypto License for firms offering, issuing, listing and trading crypto assets. In addition, DMCC has a number of other specialised licences that can be obtained to cater for the specific needs of certain businesses such as a Food License and an Education License.

How does DMCC Dubai promote sustainability within its free zone?

In 2018, DMCC appointed a corporate-level committee to oversee and monitor the progress of its sustainability commitments. This committee was established to align the organisation with the UN Global Compact local network and to support a strong culture of sustainable business.

In order to further embed the sustainability agenda across its entire organisation, DMCC has developed its ‘Moving to Impact’ programme. The six-month initiative is designed to accelerate the growth of impact-driven businesses that are delivering positive social and environmental outcomes. This forms an integral part of DMCC’s wider ESG strategy and will see DMCC commit 0.5 per cent of its net profits towards impact-driven projects.
