Bangkok Information

Bangkok is the largest urban area, the main city and the capital of Thailand. During the Ayutthya kingdom, the city was at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River as a small trading post. After the burning of Ayuttava in the 1968 year, it was granted the status of capital city and became the front of Siam.

However, Rattanakosin’s kingdom began only after the year 1782, when RamaI moved the capital city to the other side of the river after the death of King Taksin. Belonging to the limits of the ancient in the center of the metropolis, the capital of Rattanakosin is formally called “Phar Nakhon”.

Now, the name Bangkok incorporates the accumulation of urbanism that has its own public administrator and governor since the 18th century. In the span of more than 200 years, Bangkok has grown as the best center in the field of political, social and economic.

The growth of the capital city is not only in Thailand but also in Southeast Asia and Indochina. Bangkok has been granted the status of a global city due to its influence on education, entertainment, fashion, politics and the arts, as well as being the center of business, finance and culture in Asia.

Bangkok Province borders 5 other provinces: Samut Sakhon, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi. All these five provinces have come together to provide the contribution for the Bangkok Metropolitan Area.

In population index, Bangkok is the 22nd most populous city in the world with approximately 8,160,522 registered residents. Due to the vibrating increase in the population the city is given the status of being a cosmopolitan city where the largest population of Bangkok approaches the estimate of 15 million.
