The theory of how dishwashers work

Dishwashers are a category of home appliances that take care of your most strenuous job, washing dishes and kitchen utensils. Dishwashers were regarded as a symbol of lavishness during the previous era. Time has changed and so has technology. The impact of technology has envisioned far-reaching sequences and left no room for a setback. Modern dishwashers have broken the limiting barriers of their ancestors and have found a new place in domestic services. Dishwashers come in a variable range, such as fully integrated, freestanding, compact, countertop, full-size, and slim-line, but these machines are all built-in with almost a similar set of features except for slight variations between them.

The basic steps of dishwashing:

Water filling

The dishwasher acquires water from the domestic water supply, with the help of its inlet pipe. The purchased water is used to fill the system for the washing process.

Temperature setting

The water is heated to the assigned temperature as part of the wash process settings. The high temperatures are used when the degree of soiling on the dishes is high and the lower temperatures are applied when the dishes have a low level of dirt.

Use of detergent

A dishwasher’s detergent dispenser releases detergent in the washing process at a precise time to effectively remove dirt from dishes. Many high-end dishwashers feature a 3-in-1 or 5-in-1 tablet selection option that automatically detects the category of detergent used and adjusts the wash settings accordingly.

Spraying system

A dishwasher’s spray system sprays water vigorously through jets to effectively remove even dry stains. The water spray is collected as a bottom and drained. This rinsing process is done repeatedly until the dishes are completely cleaned and the drain is expelled through an outlet pipe. The orbital spray system is one of the most common types of spray system, where the water is sprayed through the jets in a rotating mode, so that the water reaches all parts of the dishes evenly.

Drying

After the wash cycles are complete, a dishwasher dries dishes using various methodologies, which can vary depending on the type and brand of dishwasher. The most common drying method is residual drying, which uses the hot air produced during the last cycle to dry the dishes.

A dishwasher is designed with certain characteristics that also contribute to the performance of the appliance. Some of the features are:

Rinse aid

A dishwasher has a special provision for rinse aid, which is dispensed at the exact time of the cycle. These rinse aids include surfactant particles that prevent the formation of white spots (due to limescale formation) on the surface of dishes.

Water softening device

This feature plays a very useful role, especially when you reside in hard water areas. This device adjusts the hardness of the water to improve washing results.
