The benefits of using a local painting contractor

There are so many painting contractors you can choose from when you need to repaint your home. The advent of the internet and social media age has made finding service providers such as house painters very easy. It’s so easy that there are some national franchise painting contractors that have joined the fray to compete for our business.

All painting contractors, local or national, will always claim a level of expertise and professionalism well above the rest of the bunch. They would also compete in terms of pricing and presentation of their range of services. If you have time to check them all, you may find that there are good national contractors and there are good local contractors as well. You can’t assume that just because a painting contractor has many locations that they would do a good job. On the other hand, just because a local contractor is family owned and only has one location doesn’t mean they are any less professional.

Here are a few reasons why for most homeowners, a local painting contractor is a better option:

  1. Local contractors are more committed to their work. They need to maintain the best reputation within the small community with which they work; otherwise, they may lose their customers and go out of business. A franchise business relies on advertising to attract customers and you can always move to a different location in case you slip up on a job.

  2. It is easier to verify the claims of professionalism and competence of local contractors. You may meet many of the people they have worked for and be able to get first-hand feedback on the quality of their work.

  3. It is much easier to communicate and coordinate work with a contractor within the same community. Being a local business allows them to respond faster to your needs and concerns. Local painting contractors would not want to be known in their community as insensitive.

  4. It’s much easier to ask a local contractor to rework certain areas that you may want to redo or touch up, even after you’ve agreed to the paint job; that’s something most franchise companies don’t consider.

  5. Hiring a local painting contractor keeps money in the community and helps provide local employment. The taxes they pay help finance community projects. They would likely source their materials from local businesses, further boosting the local economy.

  6. Some local businesses, such as painting contractors, give back to the community through participation in civic activities and charitable events. By supporting local painting contractors, you’re also supporting the charitable causes they support.

Of course, you also have to be careful about evening wear when dealing with local contractors. But it’s easy enough to check and a track record of about three years with no major complaints should indicate a reliable contractor.
